At YMCA Camp Ingersoll, teens gain valuable leadership skills while developing their work ethic. These positions prepare teens to become staff members at camp as well as productive members of their home community.
COUNSELORS IN TRAINING (CIT) - Ages 14-16
Our CIT Program is focused on leadership development and growth of spirit, mind, and body. The workshops that you take part in and experiences that you have will change your perspective on who you are and what you are capable of.
Being in the CIT Program means that you are willing to commit yourself to learning and to working hard to give yourself the opportunity to grow and develop as an individual. You will step outside of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. You will gain confidence and learn to identify and utilize your strengths.

By participating in this program, CITs will have up to four weeks of leadership workshops, team building, strengthening group cohesion, planning activities, participating in camp program areas, shadowing counselors in groups, and contributing to the camp community. You will leave equipped with the tools to be a better leader through a solid understanding of yourself. In addition, you will form friendships with your peers and counselors that last a lifetime.

We strongly recommend all CITs participate in at least two different sessions of the program in two different parts of the summer (sessions 1 & 3, sessions 2 & 4, three sessions with a break, or every session). This will help diversify your leadership skills through working with a variety of campers, staff, and peers.
Successful completion of the program empowers participants to apply to become a Counselor (must be 16 years old) the following summer.

This program is not limited to those who want to become camp counselors but is open to anyone who is interested in nurturing their leadership potential.
